About Cyrus

Cyrus Aryani, Ph.D., P.E., G.E., is Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at California State University, Sacramento, a position he has held since 1988. He earned B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering from Utah State University, with the Ph.D. completed in 1984. Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and Geotechnical Engineer (G.E.) in California, his specialty is geotechnical engineering as stated on the department faculty page. His office is in Riverside Hall room 4036, phone (916) 278-6096.

In geotechnical engineering, Dr. Aryani teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on topics such as soil mechanics and foundation engineering. He authored the five-volume textbook series Geotechnical Engineering Applied Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, published in 2020, providing comprehensive coverage of geotechnical practice topics. He has served as graduate program coordinator in the Civil Engineering Department. Dr. Aryani observed the Civil Engineering program's growth from 350 students in 1988 to over 1,000 students. He supervises graduate theses on topics including groundwater banking feasibility, dam breach parameter sensitivity, runoff comparisons, and land use diversity correlations.
