DUTIES:
In addition to the responsibilities listed below, faculty members are expected to adhere to all university and College of Education faculty policies, guidelines, and responsibilities and perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean of the College of Education, the Dean of Colleges, and the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate Elementary Education and education courses in multiple formats, including face-to-face, hybrid, online, evening, weekend, and offsite locations
- Designing, developing, and delivering high-quality instruction and assessments across a variety of instructional modalities
- Supporting student academic achievement, professional growth, and career readiness
- Maintaining office hours and advising teacher candidates on academic and professional matters
- Serving on university, college, and program committees, including accreditation and assessment initiatives
- Engaging in professional development and/or scholarship appropriate for a teaching institution to maintain currency in disciplinary field(s)
- Contributing to the university’s mission through excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and professional engagement
- Supervising teacher candidates during field and internship experiences
- Supporting and supervising adjunct instructors for designated anchor courses
- Promoting strong student performance on certification assessments and edTPA requirements
- Collaborating with local school systems and community partners to strengthen Professional Development School (PDS) partnerships
- Participating in continuous program improvement efforts through data analysis and evidence-based decision-making
- Performing other professional responsibilities as assigned by university administration
Required Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Earned MAED in Elementary Education from an NCATE/CAEP accredited institution of higher education.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience in Grades 1-6 Elementary Education settings
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, equity, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Evidence of, or strong potential for scholarly productivity and professional engagement
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
- Earned PhD or EdD in Elementary Education from an NCATE-or CAEP-accredited institution of higher education, or current enrollment in a doctoral program leading to one of these degrees.
- Experience and/or expertise in literacy development.
- Experience and/or expertise in mathematics and science instruction.
- Completion of Alabama Reading Initiatives (ARI) Training
- Formal training in Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS’)
- Completion of Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI) Mathematics Training for grades K-6
- Participation or completion of Ongoing Assessment Project (OGAP) mathematics training
- Completion of Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI) Science Training for Experience and expertise in integrating content areas in a cross-curricular approach to instruction.
- Ability to model effective online teaching and use of instructional technology.
- Experience in supervising student-teaching interns
- Experience with the accreditation process (CEC, CAEP, SACSCOC, etc.)
- Ability to interpret and apply data to improve practices in both courses anchored and college-wide applications.
