Job Description

Position Summary

The Research Associate III will play a key role in advancing research on the impacts of offshore wind energy development on the oceanographic environment of the Northeast U.S. shelf. This position is part of the Physical Oceanography / Offshore Wind Research Program, reporting to the Principal Investigators (PIs).

The successful candidate will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to conduct numerical investigations, quantify the effects of offshore wind turbines on ocean systems, and assess their spatial extent, magnitude, and ecological implications. The role will focus on analyzing how offshore wind farms influence ocean currents, mixing processes, and regional nutrient and productivity dynamics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct numerical modeling and simulations to investigate offshore wind impacts on oceanographic processes
• Analyze changes in ocean currents, mixing, and nutrient dynamics resulting from offshore wind development
• Quantify the spatial extent and magnitude of environmental impacts from offshore wind turbines
• Collaborate with PIs and interdisciplinary team members on research design, analysis, and reporting

Required Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Oceanography, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Experience with numerical modeling and analysis of oceanographic or environmental systems
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a research team environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with physical oceanography, coastal systems, or offshore wind research
• Proficiency in scientific programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or similar tools)
• Strong communication skills, including scientific writing and data presentation

Additional Job Requirements

Salary Range: $79,565 - $103,133

The salary range provided for this position reflects the expected minimum and maximum base pay for new hires. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as internal equity and market conditions. In addition to base salary, eligible employees also receive a comprehensive benefits package.
