Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Music at Millersville University is seeking a part-time instructor to teach guitar students in our Music Industry, Music Education, and BA programs. The candidate must have experience with guitar techniques for jazz, classical, and current popular genres. The majority of guitar students are Music Industry majors and focus on popular commercial music genres. A temporary, part-time studio instructor is responsible for teaching individual half-hour and hour-long studio guitar lessons each week, as well as leading a weekly hour-long masterclass for guitar studio students.
In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Music with an emphasis in guitar performance or guitar pedagogy, or a BA in guitar performance with 15 additional graduate credits in music.
- Demonstrated knowledge of both classical and commercial guitar pedagogy.
- Experience with guitar techniques in jazz, classical, and current popular genres.
- Experience teaching individual lessons and leading group instruction (e.g., masterclasses).
- Ability to teach diverse student populations successfully.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive practices and experience working with diverse student populations.
- Successful interview.
- Successful teaching demonstration for studio guitar.
- Successful completion of three background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD, DMA or ABD in Music.
- Prior college-level teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
