PhD position in Plant Trait Ecology

We are seeking a candidate to perform both fieldwork and cutting-edge data analysis in plant functional ecology, working on both above- and below- ground plant traits. Plant functional trait ecology has revolutionised our practical ability to link ecology to climate change and biosphere services. This project will explore a core assumption in plant functional trait ecology: that relationships between traits within a species are stable through time and context. The candidate will also have the potential to explore causal linkages between traits and ecosystem GHG fluxes through integration into ongoing monitoring projects in an interdisciplinary working group which builds instruments, uses machine learning to support sampling, and aims to answer interesting questions at the interface between plant-soil ecology and climate change science.

Duration of funding: Funding is available to support a 4-year position including annual €25,000, tax-free stipend and student fees.
