General Description:

The Vice President of Instruction (VPI) provides visionary and conscientious academic leadership to advance the college's mission and institutional goals in the area of instruction. The VPI will provide innovative and collaborative management and administration of student learning within all instructional divisions and departments at the college to meet our diverse student population and community.

In this role, the VPI will have the opportunity to develop and administer instructional policies and procedures for all College academic and workforce education programs. Primary responsibilities include planning, implementing, coordinating, and assessing instructional programs to ensure the educational needs of students and the community are satisfied and that the instructional mission and goals of the College are realized. The VPI will remain equally committed to providing leadership, advocacy, and oversight across all instructional areas which include the Deans, Assistant Deans, and Directors in the following areas: Arts and Sciences, Transitional Studies, High School Programs, Workforce Transfer and Trades, Corrections Education, Nursing and Allied Health, Academic Success Center, Continuing and Community Education, Center for Teaching and Learning, Library, and the Water and Environmental Center.

Essential Functions:

The Vice President of Instruction supports the college mission, vision, strategic direction and guiding principles in all instructional areas.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for the Instruction division and collaborate with the president's executive leadership team in support of the College's vision, mission, guiding principles, and strategic plan.
• Support the mission of the college in all instructional areas; collaboratively develop and oversee implementation of divisional goals and planning processes for each instructional area.
• Promote connection and belonging throughout the operations of the entire college but especially within the instructional unit.
• Engage actively in leading or promoting various college initiatives that increase student or institutional success such as Guided Pathways, Title III, etc.
• Foster collaborative partnerships with full-time and part-time faculty in a unionized environment.
• Lead the instructional division but with a systems-approach to ensure that the entire institution functions at the highest possible level of excellence.
• Manages professional and paraprofessional staff.

Budget/Fiscal Scope

• Participate in strategic and inclusive decision making that is open and transparent regarding fiscal priorities.
• Oversee the creation of resourceful, student-centered and fiscally responsible multi-level budgets and spending for the instructional unit.
• Maintain reasonable strategic and innovative direction during fiscal challenges that includes working collaboratively to establish short- and long-term sustainable financial strategies and goals.
• Support campus efforts to generate sustainable revenue sources from grants, new programs to meet the needs of the community, community partnerships, etc.
• Acts as signature authority for all Instruction division budgets.

Student-Centered Instruction

• Advance WWCC's commitment to providing high quality credentials, including certificates and degrees, programs. Maintain or expand/enhance all programs, including Applied Baccalaureate Degrees, to ensure that WWCC meets the needs of the communities it serves.
• Advance teaching practices and innovative instructional delivery models that demonstrate an understanding of evolving student needs and an emphasis on student success. Examples include culturally responsive teaching, best practices in online instruction, and robust learning support services.
• Enhance and expand the College's Workforce, Academic, and Transitional Studies programs.
• Support the college's Corrections Education campuses (Washington State Penitentiary and Coyote Ridge Correctional Facility).

Assessment/Accreditation

• Provide oversight and support for assessment of student learning at all levels of instruction, and at the course- program- and institutional levels.
• Partner with the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness to generate, analyze, understand, and utilize data to engage in a cycle of continuous improvement in all aspects of the College's instructional operations. This includes implementation of an effective, regular, and comprehensive system of program review and assessment of learning.
• Actively participate in institutional and unit-level strategic planning that is collaborative and responsive to college and community needs.

Communication/Collaboration

• Collaborate with campus departments, such as Marketing, Outreach, Student Services and Institutional Research to ensure all instructional programs remain responsive to student needs while using data to inform decisions about equitable and inclusive practices that enhance program support and college visibility.
• Promote Dual Enrollment, including Running Start, College in the High School, and Open Doors; develop and maintain relationships with local school district leaders in our service area to ensure ongoing cooperation and collaboration.
• Represent WWCC at local, state, regional, and national events/functions, including participating in the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges' governance structure, attending Instruction Commission meetings, and others, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
Any combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the applicant with the knowledge and skills to perform the job may be considered by the college.

• Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Three (3) or more years of full-time faculty post-secondary experience.
• Three (3) or more years of post-secondary instructional administrative leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university.
• Demonstrated instruction experience at a community college.
• Demonstrated experience working in a unionized environment.
• Demonstrated administrative leadership at a community college.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.

Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel Required:

• Work setting is primarily indoors with standard office equipment and no expected exposure to hazards.
• Out of town travel required; regular visits to other College campuses.
• Frequent contact with students, faculty, staff, members of the community, and community partners.

Conditions/Terms of Employment
This is a full-time professional position. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment. Candidates may be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition of employment. The college is a tobacco free institution.

Work is performed almost exclusively indoors in an office environment. Exposure to hazards is limited to those commonly found in office environments. This contract position work schedule will typically be Monday through Friday 8-hours each day. During the summer, work schedule is Monday through Thursday 10-hours each day. Occasional nights and weekends. Occasional overnight travel.

Compensation:

Annual salary range for initial placement based on the non-represented exempt salary schedule is NR21, Placement range: $154,819-$175,163, with scheduled salary increment increases every 12 months until you reach the top of the scale. The college has an excellent benefit program including paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). All administrative exempt staff set aside 1% of their gross salary in a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) (VEBA). All exempt employees are required to participate in this program. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
