Our ranking system is built on four core pillars to ensure integrity and relevance:

  • Verification: Only current employees with a valid institutional email address can participate.
  • Recency: To keep data fresh, rankings expire and are removed from the calculation after 12 months unless updated.
  • Flexibility: Employees can visit their AcademicJobs portal at any time to adjust their ratings as their experience evolves.
  • Organic Growth: The "Overall Employer Ranking" is a weighted average of 10 key metrics, updated in real-time with every new entry.

For Employees

  • Email Verification: You must use your @university.edu (or equivalent) email to verify your status. Your identity remains anonymous to your employer.
  • Authenticity: Reviews must be based on actual, current work experience.
  • Professionalism: While we encourage honesty, comments containing hate speech, defamation, or proprietary internal data will be removed.

For Employers

  • Encouraged Participation: We encourage universities to invite their staff to participate to ensure a statistically significant sample size.
  • The "Anti-Coaching" Rule: Employers must not influence, script, or "coach" employees on how to vote. This includes offering incentives for positive reviews or monitoring employees while they vote.
  • Penalty for Breach: Any institution found in breach of the coaching rule will face a Ranking Penalty, which includes a visible "Data Integrity Warning" on their profile and a percentage deduction from their overall score for 6 months.
