Ah-Hyung “Alissa” Park, also known as A.-H. Alissa Park, is the Ronald and Valerie Sugar Dean of the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering and a professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering with a joint appointment in civil and environmental engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles. She joined UCLA on September 1, 2023. Prior to this appointment, she served as a faculty member at Columbia University since 2007, where she held the positions of Lenfest Earth Institute Professor of Climate Change, director of the Lenfest Center for Sustainable Energy, chair of the Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering, and executive committee member of The Earth Institute and Columbia Climate School. Park earned her Ph.D. in chemical and biomolecular engineering from The Ohio State University in 2005, her M.A.Sc. in chemical and biological engineering from the University of British Columbia in 2000, and her B.A.Sc. with distinction in chemical and biological engineering from the University of British Columbia in 1998.
Her research specializes in sustainable energy and materials conversion pathways with an emphasis on integrated carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies. Park has received numerous awards and honors, including the KSEA Engineer of the Year Award in 2025, the American Chemical Society ENFL Distinguished Researcher Award in 2025, the Distinguished Engineering Educator Award from The Engineers’ Council in 2025, the IUPAC Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Award in 2025, fellowship in the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research from 2023 to 2026, the Shell Thomas Baron Award in Fluid-Particle Systems from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers in 2022, fellowship in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers in 2021, fellowship in the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2020, fellowship in the American Chemical Society in 2020, and fellowship in the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2020, among others. She is a senior member of the National Academy of Inventors and a member of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Committee on Carbon Utilization Infrastructure, Markets, Research and Development. Park has co-founded the startup GreenOre CleanTech and has contributed to editorial and advisory boards as well as national and global discussions on carbon capture technologies.
