About Aaron

Dr Aaron Camens is Senior Lecturer in Palaeontology in the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University. He completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Zoology and Geology at the University of Adelaide between 2001 and 2003, followed by First Class Honours in Palaeontology at Flinders University in 2004. He was awarded a PhD from the University of Adelaide in 2010 for research on the evolution and palaeobiology of the Diprotodontidae.

Dr Camens has held his position at Flinders University since 2014. His research focuses on functional morphology, ichnology, taphonomy and palaeoecology, with fieldwork conducted across Australia, New Zealand and Madagascar. He has particular interest in extinct Australian megafauna and fossil deposits from the arid interior spanning approximately 25 million years ago to the period of human arrival in southern Australia. In 2022 he received the CSE Dean (Education) Teaching Excellence Award. He serves as a member of the EDIAG committee and as Academic Indigenous Coordinator for the College of Science and Engineering. He contributes to the BSc (Palaeontology) program, including as topic coordinator for several core palaeontology subjects.
