Adam Lucas is an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Wollongong in the School of Humanities and Social Inquiry within the Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities. He previously held the position of Senior Lecturer in Science and Technology Studies at the same institution, joining in 2008 after completing a decade of postgraduate study at the University of New South Wales. His primary research interests encompass the social, technical, environmental and economic factors involved in the development of premodern and early modern technologies, as well as the political economy of climate change and energy policy examined from historical and sociological perspectives. Lucas holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree. Prior to his academic appointments, he worked as a researcher and policy analyst in the NSW Cabinet Office and the Departments of State and Regional Development, Aboriginal Affairs and Housing. He has authored publications on topics including networks of corporate influence on government decision-making in climate change and energy policies, as well as surveys of technological change from the late Bronze Age to the seventh century CE. Lucas is a founding member of Academics for Public Universities and Public Universities Australia, and he has contributed to public discourse on university governance issues.
His work in science and technology studies and environmental humanities has addressed the history of machine technology and contemporary policy challenges.
