Adnan Beker Yousuf served as Associate Professor, Research at the Agricultural Research Station of Virginia State University. He held a PhD and focused his research on small ruminant production, including nutrition, breeding, and health, as well as growth and carcass characteristics of small ruminants. His work examined topics such as the effects of dietary protein levels and gastrointestinal nematode parasite infection on carcass and meat composition in goats, the impact of probiotics on pastured goats, physicochemical properties of goat meat under various diets, and the nutritional composition of sorghum varieties for livestock feed.
Yousuf received a SARE Program grant in 2022 to investigate the potential use of agricultural waste in sustainable farming practices. He authored or co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications on these subjects, including studies on energy expenditure in small ruminants, alkali treatment of crop residues for improved digestibility, and comparisons of plant and animal proteins. He maintained an active research presence at the university for 17 years until his departure in late 2025.
