About Akindele Abimibayo

Akindele Abimibayo Adeoya is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Program in Food Science at the Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Tohoku University. He previously served as a postdoctoral researcher in the Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise Laboratory at the Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine. Adeoya holds a PhD in Disability Science from Tohoku University, a Master’s degree in Public Health from Tohoku University, a professional degree from the Graduate School of Education at Miyagi University of Education, a Master’s degree in Human Kinetics and Health Education from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, and a Bachelor’s degree in Health Education from Tai Solarin University of Education in Nigeria.

His research focuses on health promotion and education, migrant and global health, nutrition epidemiology and food security, health literacy, disaster preparedness, and physical activity. Adeoya has authored or co-authored peer-reviewed publications including “Improving child nutrition in disasters by developing a modeled disaster preparedness nutrition education curriculum” (2023), “Effectiveness of nutrition education in enhancing knowledge and attitude of pupils on choice of school mid-day meal in Ibadan, Nigeria” (2023), “Child nutrition in disaster: a scoping review” (2022), and “Exploring health literacy among Japanese and international university students in Japan: A comparative cross-sectional study” (2025). He received the Shinyu Excellent Student Award from the Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine in 2023 and was recognized as the overall best presenter at the 2024 International Conference on Public Health. Adeoya has presented at conferences including those of the American Public Health Association and the Japanese Society of Physical Fitness and Sports Medicine, and he serves as a reviewer for journals such as BMC Nutrition.
