About Akio

Akio Inoue is a Professor in the Faculty of Agriculture at Kindai University, where he serves in the Department of Environmental Management and holds additional appointments in the Graduate School of Agriculture and the Agricultural Technology and Innovation Research Institute. He earned a PhD in Agriculture from Kyushu University in 2001, following a master’s degree from the same institution and a bachelor’s degree from Kochi University’s Faculty of Agriculture. Prior to joining Kindai University as Professor in 2019, Inoue held academic positions at the Prefectural University of Kumamoto, including Professor and Associate Professor roles in the Faculty of Environmental and Symbiotic Sciences, as well as earlier appointments as Lecturer and Assistant Professor at Tottori University’s Faculty of Agriculture.

His research focuses on forest science, encompassing forest planning, forest mensuration, forest management, and sylviculture. Inoue has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers, including “Nezuko’s bamboo muzzle differs from actual bamboo (Phyllostachys spp.)” published in Advances in Bamboo Science in 2026 and “Measuring tree diameter at breast height in urban green spaces using ForestScanner: Implications for citizen science” in Urban Forestry & Urban Greening in 2026. He has contributed chapters to books such as Bamboo Science and Technology (Springer, 2023) and Forest Planning Studies (Asakura Shoten, 2020). Inoue has received awards including the Smart Processes Society Paper Award in 2026 and has been involved in research grants from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science on topics such as aerial laser measurement for forest management. He maintains active participation in academic conferences, including presentations at the Japan Forest Society meetings.
