Dr. Alessandra Pecorelli serves as Senior Research Scholar at the Plants for Human Health Institute of NC State University. Her primary research interests center on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis and progression of redox- and inflammatory-related conditions, with a particular focus on neurodevelopmental disorders including Rett syndrome and autism spectrum disorder. She investigates how crosstalk between altered redox homeostasis from endogenous and exogenous stressors and inflammatory pathways influences the physiopathological features of these conditions. Additional projects examine the effects of environmental pollutants such as ozone, particulate matter, and cigarette smoke on skin pathophysiological conditions including wound healing, psoriasis, eczema, and atopic dermatitis. Some work also explores the potential of phytochemicals to counteract these altered processes through topical application or nutritional supplementation.
Dr. Pecorelli earned a BS in Pharmacy and a PhD in Cell Biology and Pathophysiology from the University of Siena. She maintains affiliations with the University of Ferrara. Her professional email address is apecore@ncsu.edu.
