About Alex

Associate Professor Alex de Marco is a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Monash University’s Biomedicine Discovery Institute. He joined Monash University in 2015 as Associate Professor. His research focuses on the development of methods and technology for molecular imaging and visual proteomics using cryo-electron microscopy, focused ion beam microscopy, correlative light and electron microscopy, and related techniques to advance in situ structural biology. He has contributed to the development of the PIE-scope, an integrated cryo-FIB and light microscope system.

Alex de Marco completed a PhD in biophysics at EMBL Heidelberg. Prior to his appointment at Monash, he held positions including at the New York Structural Biology Center and maintains adjunct appointments at other institutions. His work emphasizes hardware and method development in electron microscopy and microfabrication, including novel optical elements.
