Dr. Alexander Wyatt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Urologic Sciences at the University of British Columbia and a senior research scientist at the Vancouver Prostate Centre, with a cross-appointment as a senior scientist at BC Cancer. He holds a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Nottingham and a D.Phil. in Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics from the University of Oxford. Since joining UBC as a faculty member in 2015, Dr. Wyatt has developed advanced laboratory and computational techniques to characterize genetic and epigenetic features of circulating tumour DNA in blood plasma from patients with metastatic prostate and bladder cancers. His research focuses on using liquid biopsies to understand tumour evolution, predict therapy response or resistance, and develop minimally invasive biomarkers to guide treatment selection in precision oncology.
Dr. Wyatt was appointed the UBC President’s Excellence Chair in Precision Oncology in 2025. He serves as co-chair of correlative sciences and tumour biobanking for the Canadian Cancer Trials Group and as scientific director of the Clinical Cancer Genomics Laboratory at BC Cancer. His work has contributed to genomic biomarker tests now used in clinical practice. Dr. Wyatt has received awards including the Coalition to Cure Prostate Cancer Young Investigator Award from the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the Movember Rising Star in Prostate Cancer Research Award from Prostate Cancer Canada, and an Early Career Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
