About Alireza

Dr. Alireza Rastegarpanah is Assistant Professor in Robotics and AI at Aston University. He is also Visiting Professor at the University of Brescia, Italy, and Co-Founder and Honorary Research Fellow at the Extreme Robotics Lab at the University of Birmingham, where he co-founded the Robotic Disassembly Testbed at the Birmingham Energy Innovation Centre and leads research on robotic disassembly for the circular economy. He received his PhD in Robotics from the University of Birmingham and has held positions across institutions including University College London and the Faraday Institution. His research focuses on AI-driven robotics, vision-guided manipulation, control systems, and robotic platforms for hazardous, medical, and industrial environments, integrating AI, machine vision, extended reality, and telerobotics to address challenges in remanufacturing, healthcare, and sustainable automation.

Dr. Rastegarpanah has supervised multiple PhD students to completion and has led or co-led national and European projects, including the €6M EU-funded REBELION project. His funding has come from Horizon Europe, the Royal Society, UKRI, NERC, and industry partners. He has authored over 70 technical papers in high-impact journals and conferences and serves as an editor and reviewer for leading robotics and AI publications. In recognition of his contributions to sustainable robotics, he received the Robotics Sustainability Leadership Award, jointly awarded by euRobotics and ARIA.
