Dr Amy Bottomley is a Senior Research Fellow in the Australian Institute for Microbiology and Infection at the University of Technology Sydney. She serves as an Imaging Scientist in the Microbial Imaging Facility within the Faculty of Science, where she provides expertise in advanced optical imaging techniques, including fluorescence microscopy and super-resolution microscopy, with a focus on microbial imaging. Her responsibilities include facilitating research through hands-on training and support in experimental design, sample preparation, image acquisition, and analysis for researchers across UTS. Dr Bottomley obtained her B.Sc (Hons) in microbiology from the University of Glasgow in 2007 and completed her PhD in microbiology at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom under the supervision of Professor Simon Foster. Her research experience centres on molecular microbiology, particularly bacterial cell division. She has held positions at UTS including as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and now contributes to the supervision of Honours and PhD students while serving as a joint subject co-coordinator for a Master's subject. Dr Bottomley has received the UTS Faculty of Science Dean's Award for nurturing and developing new or emerging researchers. Her work supports cutting-edge biological and biomedical research applications through the Microbial Imaging Facility.
