Ana Paula de Queiroz Mello is a professor at the Faculdade de Saúde Pública of the Universidade de São Paulo. She holds a bachelor's degree in Nutrition from the Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto, awarded in 2002. She completed an improvement program in Health, Nutrition and Child Feeding at the Universidade Federal de São Paulo in 2003. She earned a master's degree in Public Health with an emphasis on Nutrition from the Faculdade de Saúde Pública at USP in 2007 and a doctorate in Sciences with an emphasis on Nutrition from the same institution in 2011. Additional qualifications include a specialization in Nutrition in Cardiology from the Sociedade de Cardiologia do Estado de São Paulo in 2019 and a specialization in Applied Computing to Education from the Instituto de Ciências Matemáticas e de Computação at USP in 2020.
Her professional experience centers on clinical nutrition and collective health, with particular focus on nutrition and cardiovascular diseases, food and nutrition education, food consumption, nutritional assessment and child nutrition. She serves as a professor in undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses at the Centro Universitário São Camilo. She coordinates the Programa Educação Alimentar Integrando Ciência, Escola e Saúde (PEDUCA) in partnership with the Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo, the Sociedade de Cardiologia do Estado de São Paulo and the Centro Universitário São Camilo; the program is hosted on the USP distance learning platform and provides training on food and nutrition education for the prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases in the school community. In 2024 she received second place in the Prêmio Josué de Castro for her work on an innovative initiative to combat childhood obesity in state schools of São Paulo. She has also contributed as co-organizer of the book Educação alimentar e nutricional como estratégia para a prevenção da obesidade e seus agravos: práticas pedagógicas aplicadas à escola, published in 2022.
