About Ancy Anna

Dr Ancy Anna John is a Post Doctoral Research Fellow in the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Birmingham. She works within the Sun, Stars, and Exoplanets research group and collaborates with researchers including Annelies Mortier. Her research centres on exoplanet detection and characterisation, with a particular emphasis on mitigating the effects of stellar variability to enhance the precision of radial velocity measurements. This work supports efforts to identify Earth-like planets around other stars.

Dr John earned her Doctor of Philosophy from the University of St Andrews, with studies conducted between September 2020 and March 2024 and the degree awarded in June 2025. Her doctoral research addressed stellar activity in radial-velocity searches for exo-Earths. At the University of Birmingham she has contributed as a co-author to multiple peer-reviewed publications, including papers in Astronomy and Astrophysics and Science on topics such as gas-depleted planet formation in multi-planet systems, granulation signatures on K dwarfs, and discoveries of transiting sub-Neptunes and outer companions around solar analogues. She has also participated in international collaborations advancing high-fidelity spectroscopy and precise radial velocity techniques. Her professional email address is a.a.john@bham.ac.uk.
