Dr. Andrea Ceriani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at Khalifa University. He obtained his doctoral degree in Earth Sciences from the University of Pavia in 2001 and his master's degree in geology from the same university in 1995. Prior to joining Khalifa University in 2013, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Pavia in Italy since 2005. With more than 20 years of experience in sedimentary geology across industry and academia, Dr. Ceriani specializes in analytical techniques including optical and electron microscopy, cathodoluminescence, X-ray diffractometry, and fluid inclusion analysis.
His research focuses on sedimentary petrology, sedimentology, and reservoir characterization, with an emphasis on integrating petrography, sedimentology, and diagenesis to predict reservoir property distribution. He has authored or co-authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and serves as principal investigator on academic and industry-oriented research projects. Dr. Ceriani's work also addresses the characterization of modern sands and ancient arenites, provenance studies, and CO2 sequestration. He teaches courses such as Earth Materials, Geology of the Middle East, Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology, Paleontology, Sedimentary Petrology, and Sedimentology and Stratigraphy.
