About Andrew

Andrew Danso Adu is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Jyväskylä in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Music, Art and Culture Studies. He is affiliated with the Centre of Excellence in Music, Mind, Body and Brain, where his research examines how music and personalised technologies influence motivational and behavioural responses in sport, exercise, and health contexts. His work integrates approaches from music psychology and sport and exercise science. Danso also contributes to the Research Council of Finland MPOWER project (2025–2028), coordinating interdisciplinary collaborations and research activities across the Department of Music, Art and Culture Studies and the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences. He leads or participates in related projects including Music, Sports Performance and Physical Activity (MPACT), Leisure time activities and well-being (ACTWELL), and MUSPRO – music and sports.

A systematic review and meta-analysis” in Frontiers in Psychology; the 2026 paper “Affect and exercise adherence: an integrative framework with the aerial yoga example” in the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology; and the 2025 paper “Development and User Experiences of a Novel Virtual Reality Task for Poststroke Visuospatial Neglect: Exploratory Case Study” in JMIR XR and Spatial Computing. Additional 2026 publications cover topics such as associations of music and sport identity with mental and physical health, arts and cultural engagement and health inequalities, musical imagery in collegiate athletes, and strategies to improve the affective experience of exercise. Danso completed a doctoral thesis in 2023 titled “The Use of Technology in Music-based Interventions for Health and Education.”
