About Andrew

Dr Andrew Rogoyski is Director of Innovation and Partnerships at the Surrey Institute for People-Centred Artificial Intelligence at the University of Surrey. He holds a PhD and BSc and trained as an astrophysicist. Following completion of his PhD in laser-generated plasmas, he worked at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in areas including x-ray lasers and inertial confinement fusion, collaborating with international labs such as the Naval Research Laboratory and the Ecole Polytechnique.

He subsequently moved to industry, joining Logica to lead a group specialising in signal and image processing, including early AI systems, and progressed to Operations Director of the Space & Defence Division. He later joined space consultancy Esys and served as Managing Director of QinetiQ’s Space Division. Focusing on security technologies, he joined Charteris and then DS&S, providing strategic advice to government in innovation and cyber security. He was seconded to the Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance in the Cabinet Office, where he authored the first UK cyber export strategy and contributed to new export controls for cyber. He then joined CGI as Vice President of a new UK cyber business and later served as Innovation Director at Roke Manor Research. He returned to academia in his current role at the University of Surrey, where he also advises TechUK’s Management, Finance and Performance Board and NatWest Group’s Technology Advisory Board. His affiliations include the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing and the Surrey Centre for Cyber Security. He has authored publications on topics including AI adoption frameworks and earlier technical papers on x-ray lasers, communications, and sonar data processing.
