About Angela

Angela Yao is Dean's Chair Associate Professor and Assistant Dean, Research at the School of Computing, National University of Singapore. She holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. from ETH Zurich and a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on human-centric vision and video understanding, emphasizing the visual perception of people in images and video for intelligent systems. This includes high-level semantics in video understanding of human actions and lower-level physical modelling such as 3D pose and shape estimation of the body and hand. Prior to her current role, she led a research group in visual computing at the University of Bonn and co-founded a startup focused on smart parking solutions.

Professor Yao received the NRF Fellowship for Artificial Intelligence in 2019 and the German Pattern Recognition (DAGM) Award in 2018. She has organized workshops at major conferences including CVPR and delivered keynotes on topics in computer vision and AI. Her work contributes to advancements in contextual AI systems for perceiving and assisting with human activities in real-world and embodied settings.
