About Anil

Professor Anil Kishen serves as Professor and Dean (on leave) at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto, where he holds the Arthur Zwigenberger Decanal Chair and the Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Oral Health Nanomedicine. He is a Professor of Endodontics who joined the University of Toronto in 2009 and previously served as Associate Dean, Graduate Education. Dr. Kishen holds the degrees of B.D.S., M.D.S., and Ph.D. His research focuses on microbe-host tissue interactions and nanoparticle-guided tissue engineering, with additional interests in biomaterials, connective and mineralized tissue biology and wound healing, endodontics, and oral microbiology. He has supervised more than 100 trainees, including fifteen Ph.D. students and more than twenty-five M.Sc. students. Dr. Kishen has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, edited books, and is a co-inventor on several patents. He has received multiple honors for his contributions to dental education and research, including the W.W. Wood Award in 2016 from the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry for excellence in dental education, the 2020 Louis I. Grossman Award from the American Association of Endodontists for cumulative publication of significant research studies that have made an extraordinary contribution to endodontology, and the 2023 National Dental Research Award from the Canadian Association for Dental Research and the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry for exceptional contributions to dental research in a Canadian university.
