About Anna-Maria

Dr. Anna-Maria Pappa is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Khalifa University. She also serves as a visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge. Previously, she held the position of Independent Oppenheimer Research Fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Cambridge University and was the Maudslay-Butler Research Fellow in Engineering at Pembroke College, Cambridge.

She earned a Diploma in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Nanotechnology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. She completed her PhD in Bioelectronics in 2017 at the University of Lyon in France. Her research focuses on bioelectronics, organic electronics, and biosensors, with particular emphasis on conducting polymers and 2D materials for applications in healthcare diagnostics and pathogen detection. She is an associate editor for Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Electronics, and Applied Physics Letters. Dr. Pappa has received several honors, including the L’Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science award in 2017 and recognition as an Innovator under 35 by MIT Technology Review in 2019. She teaches courses including Biotransport Phenomena and Human Physiology and Modeling. Her publication record includes numerous peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals such as Nature Reviews Bioengineering, Advanced Science, and Chemical Reviews.
