Antonia Monteiro is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Science. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh in 1997.
Monteiro’s research focuses on evolutionary developmental biology, with particular emphasis on the evolution and development of butterfly wing patterns, evo-devo mechanisms, plasticity, and behavior. She has held positions including Professor at NUS and previously at Yale-NUS College. Her work integrates ultimate and proximate mechanisms to explain the evolution of traits such as eyespots in butterflies.
