Archan Misra serves as Vice Provost (Research) and Lee Kong Chian Professor of Computer Science in the School of Computing and Information Systems at Singapore Management University. He also holds the positions of Institutional Official for Research and Interim Director of the SMU Resilient Workforces Institute. Misra earned his PhD from the University of Maryland in 2000, following an MS from the same institution in 1996 and a BS from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 1993. Prior to joining SMU, he worked as a Senior Scientist at Telcordia Technologies from 2008 to 2010, a Research Staff Member at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center from 2001 to 2008, and a Research Scientist at Bellcore from 2001 to 2008.
His research interests include human-robot collaboration, embodied AI and agentic AI, mobile and wearable sensing and computing with emphasis on LIDAR and event vision sensors, ultra low-power AI and spiking neural networks for IoT, and smart city services and mobility analytics. He has served in various leadership roles at SMU, including Associate Dean (Research) in the School of Information Systems from 2015 to 2020, Director of the Center for Applied Smart-Nation Analytics from 2016 to 2022, and Deputy Director of the Living Analytics Research Center from 2010 to 2022. Misra is a Fellow of the ACM and a Senior Member of the IEEE. He was appointed Vice Provost (Research) in July 2020.
