Atreyi Kankanhalli is a Provost’s Chair Professor in the Department of Information Systems and Analytics at the School of Computing, National University of Singapore (NUS). She serves as Co-Director of the Centre for Computational Social Science and Humanities at NUS. She previously held positions as Deputy Head (Research and Administration), Assistant Dean (Research), and Assistant Dean (Undergraduate Studies) at the School of Computing, and was the founding Coordinator of the Service Systems Innovation Research Laboratory at NUS. Professor Kankanhalli earned a B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a Ph.D. in Information Systems from NUS. She has held visiting appointments at the London School of Economics, University of California Berkeley, ESSEC Business School, and the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. Prior to academia, she worked in industrial R&D and consulted for organizations including the World Bank and Bosch SEA.
Her research interests include online communities, digital collaboration, human-AI collaboration, digital transformation in healthcare, and open innovation. Her work has appeared in journals such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Research Policy, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Journal of Management Information Systems, ACM Transactions on Management Information Systems, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of AIS, and Communications of the ACM. She has served on editorial boards including as Senior Editor for Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, and Journal of AIS, and as Associate Editor for several other journals. Professor Kankanhalli has chaired or served on program committees for conferences including ICIS, PACIS, and ICEGOV. Her honors include the AIS Sandra Slaughter Service Award, AIS Fellow recognition, IBM Faculty Award, ACM-SIGMIS Best Doctoral Dissertation Award, and rankings among the world’s leading IS researchers. She has also been recognized in Singapore’s 100 Women in Tech and the Asia Women Tech Leaders Award.
