Dr. Ayman El-Hattab serves as Professor at the College of Medicine, University of Sharjah. He is a Consultant Clinical Genetics with expertise in genetics and rare diseases. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Medicine and Surgery from Jordan University of Science and Technology in 2002. He obtained the American Boards of Clinical Genetics and Biochemical Genetics following training in the United States.
Dr. El-Hattab has held positions at institutions in the United States, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. At the University of Sharjah, he participates in the Student Advising Committee and research groups focused on cardiovascular topics and rare genetic disorders. He is the Founder and President of the MENA Organization for Rare Diseases. He serves as Chief Author for Genetics at SimulConsult and as Consulting Editor for GeneReviews at the University of Washington. His research focuses on chromosomal abnormalities, mitochondrial DNA depletion syndromes, metabolic disorders such as systemic primary carnitine deficiency, and related conditions. He has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including works on 15q24 genomic architecture, MPV17-associated syndromes, and MELAS syndrome management with citrulline and arginine supplementation.
