About Bassam

Dr. Bassam Khoury is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology at McGill University, where he also serves as Director of the McGill Mindfulness Research Lab and holds the title of William Dawson Scholar. He earned a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Lebanese University, a B.A. in Honours Psychology from Concordia University, a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Université de Montréal, and conducted postdoctoral research in psychology at Harvard University and McGill University. A licensed clinical psychologist with the Ordre des Psychologues du Québec, Dr. Khoury specializes in mindfulness-based treatments.

His research advances the theory, research, and applications of mindfulness and compassion, with a focus on theories, measures, applications, interpersonal and embodied mindfulness, mindfulness- and compassion-based treatments, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and the use of VR technology in research. Dr. Khoury has published numerous papers on mindfulness and compassion in leading journals in clinical psychology and physical/medical health. His work has been cited more than 5,000 times, selected for the University of Cambridge's Insights for Impact Report on the most impactful psychology research worldwide, and ranked 67th globally on Web of Science in clinical psychology. He has received multiple awards and honors, including the Heather Reisman and Gerald Schwartz Award for Excellence in Teaching from McGill University's Faculty of Education in 2022, the Association of Psychological Science Emerging Scholars Rising Stars Award in 2019, and the William Dawson Scholar Award for 2021–2026. Dr. Khoury is a clinical psychologist with a specialization in mindfulness-based treatments.
