Professor Belinda Tynan is the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Newcastle, a position she assumed in 2025. In this role, she focuses on academic strategy, digital innovation, and sector-wide transformation to deliver outstanding student outcomes, strengthen academic quality, and support staff innovation in teaching and learning. She brings extensive experience from senior executive positions at leading universities in Australia and the United Kingdom, including RMIT University, The Open University, the University of Southern Queensland, and the University of New England. Prior to her current appointment, she served as Deloitte Australia’s National Education Lead, where she advised government and tertiary sectors on operating models, digital transformation, and future-focused education strategy.
Professor Tynan holds a Doctor of Education from the University of Western Australia. Her professional and research interests centre on higher education, with contributions including numerous refereed publications on topics such as technology-enhanced learning, staff development, and mixed modalities in education. She has served on boards including the Commonwealth of Learning, Open Universities Australia, and FutureLearn, as well as community and education organisations. Her leadership has been recognised with inclusion in the Australian Financial Review’s Top 100 Women of Influence in 2019 and the Telstra Victorian Businesswoman of the Year Award in 2020.
