About Ben

Dr Ben Lecorps is Senior Lecturer at the Bristol Veterinary School, University of Bristol. He holds a PhD in Applied Animal Biology, an MSc and a BSc. As an animal welfare scientist, his research focuses on understanding the affective experiences of animals, particularly dairy cattle subjected to routine farm procedures such as disbudding and feed restrictions. His work aims to improve the welfare of captive animals through scientific methods and to develop practical solutions that benefit both animals and farmers while addressing broader sustainability challenges including climate change and biodiversity loss.

Dr Lecorps serves as co-chair of the John Oldacre Centre for Dairy Welfare and Sustainability. He is editor for the journals Discover Animals and Animal Welfare. He received the UFAW Early Career Animal Welfare Researcher of the Year award in 2025 and the New Investigator Award in 2025. His research interests include animal emotions, cognition, behaviour, ethics and sustainable agriculture.
