Professor Benjamin Loos is Professor and Head of the Department of Physiological Sciences in the Faculty of Science at Stellenbosch University. He earned his honours, master’s degree in 2006, and PhD in 2009, all in physiological sciences from Stellenbosch University. Professor Loos heads the Neuro Research Group, which applies cell biology, cell physiology, microscopy, and biochemistry approaches to study autophagy and related cellular processes. His research addresses topics including Alzheimer’s disease, neuronal aging, malignant brain tumors, and neuronal injury and trauma. He serves as CEO of Phagoflux, a company focused on autophagy flux technologies, and has contributed to patents and innovations recognized by the university. Professor Loos delivered his inaugural lecture at Stellenbosch University in 2022.
