About Bianca

Dr Bianca Moffett is a clinician researcher at the University of the Witwatersrand affiliated with the SAMRC/Wits Agincourt Unit. She holds an MBChB degree and an MSc in Global Mental Health from King’s College London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Health. Moffett serves as co-Theme Lead for Mental and Neurological Health and Wellbeing at the Agincourt Unit, where she leads research on mental health in rural and low-resource settings in South Africa and across Africa. Her work focuses on adolescent mental health, digital interventions, and the evaluation of novel approaches to address the burden of mental, neurological, and substance-use conditions.

Moffett has led the DoBAt study, a pilot randomized controlled trial examining the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of digitally delivered behavioural activation therapy for adolescents. She also leads the AfriCAT project, which develops a computerised adaptive test to advance measurement-based mental health care for adolescents in Africa. Prior to her current role, she worked as a medical doctor with experience in rural primary care in the Eastern Cape. Her contributions include co-authoring peer-reviewed publications on digital mental health interventions, such as the 2022 protocol on behavioural activation therapy delivery and the 2025 report on the DoBAt pilot trial.
