Professor Bonginkosi Chiliza is an Associate Professor, Chief Specialist, and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He completed his medical degree and specialization in psychiatry at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and earned his PhD from Stellenbosch University. His research interests encompass schizophrenia, consultation-liaison psychiatry, health services research, and medical education. Professor Chiliza serves as Deputy Editor of the South African Journal of Psychiatry and as President-Elect of the South African Society of Psychiatrists. He has been appointed Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the School of Medicine, Boston University. Among his honors are the Hamilton Naki Clinical Research Fellowship and the CINP Rafaelsen Young Investigators Award. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Professor Chiliza has served on the boards of several NGOs, including the SA YMCA and Life Choices, and is a founding director of Harambee Medical Consulting and the African Global Mental Health Institute.
