About Brianne

Brianne Kent is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University, where she also serves as Principal Investigator of the Translational Neuroscience Lab and Associate Director of the SFU Institute for Neuroscience and Neurotechnology. She holds the Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Translational Neuroscience and Dementia and is a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Scholar. Dr. Kent earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology from Simon Fraser University in 2009. She completed a Master of Science in Behavioral Neuroscience in 2010 and a Master of Philosophy in 2011 at Yale University, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Cambridge in 2015. Her postdoctoral training included a fellowship at the University of British Columbia from 2015 to 2019 and a Postdoctoral Certificate in Sleep Medicine from Harvard Medical School in 2020. Dr. Kent previously held affiliations with Harvard Medical School. Her research program investigates the fundamental processes underlying cognition, circadian rhythms, and neurodegenerative disease using rodent models and human studies, with emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease and sleep. She is a member of the CIHR Governing Council and an advocate for Open Science. Dr. Kent teaches Psyc 325: Learning and Memory at Simon Fraser University.
