Carlos Roberto Veiga Kiffer is Professor Adjunto de Infectologia in the Departamento de Medicina at the Escola Paulista de Medicina (EPM) of Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP). He serves as the lead researcher of the Grupo de Análise em Infecções e Antimicrobianos (GAIA), affiliated with the Laboratório Especial de Microbiologia Clínica (LEMC/ALERTA). His work centers on the epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance, data analysis, and mathematical and spatiotemporal models. He holds extensive experience in clinical and translational research focused on infectious diseases and antimicrobials, with participation in studies addressing bacterial resistance epidemiology, antimicrobials, surveillance systems, pharmacodynamics, resistance mechanisms, and analytical methods and models for resistance.
He earned his medical degree from Universidade Federal Fluminense in 1991, completed medical residency at the Instituto de Infectologia Emílio Ribas, obtained his doctorate in Doenças Infecciosas e Parasitárias from Universidade de São Paulo in 2002, and completed postdoctoral training in Doenças Infecciosas e Parasitárias at Universidade Federal de São Paulo in 2011. Kiffer contributes to research projects on topics including neonatal mortality patterns, sepsis, and antimicrobial resistance surveillance in Brazil and Latin America.
