About Caroline

Caroline Gurvich is an Associate Professor at Monash University and a clinical neuropsychologist. She serves as Deputy Director of the HER Centre Australia and heads the Cognition and Hormones Group. Her research examines the neuropsychology of women’s mental health, with a focus on how hormones influence cognitive functioning. She combines neuropsychological assessments with eye movement research to characterise cognition in mental health contexts. Gurvich has produced over 120 publications that advance understanding of biological factors affecting symptoms and cognition in mental health and illness. She has secured competitive funding including NHMRC project grants and an NHMRC early career fellowship, as well as support from the Rebecca Cooper Foundation and other institutional and philanthropic sources. Gurvich supervises PhD candidates, honours students, neuropsychology registrars and medical students, and has established biodatabanks to investigate biological mechanisms in neuropsychiatric disorders.

She completed a Doctorate in Clinical Neuropsychology at Monash University in 2006, following Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and honours degrees. Gurvich maintains appointments within the Department of Psychiatry at Monash University’s Central Clinical School. Her work contributes to projects on sex hormones and cognition across the menstrual cycle, menopause transition and aging, eye movements in psychiatry, and the effects of stress and early life adversity on adult cognition. She is a recipient of multiple awards and prizes in addition to grant funding and is actively involved in research collaborations and student supervision at the university.
