About Carolyn

Dr Carolyn Sonter is a postdoctoral researcher in the School of Environmental and Rural Science at the University of New England. She completed a Bachelor of Environmental Science at the University of New England from 2011 to 2015 and a Doctor of Philosophy in honey bee ecotoxicology at the same institution from 2019 to 2024. Her research focuses on the impacts of environmental pollutants, including perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS), on honey bee colonies, colony dynamics, and pollinator health. She has published peer-reviewed work on the biological and behavioral responses of European honey bees to PFOS exposure in 2021 and on intergenerational and biochemical responses of the western honey bee to sublethal PFOS exposures in 2026. Dr Sonter serves as HDR Student Representative for the Faculty of Science, Agriculture, Business and Law and is affiliated with the UNE Pollution Science Research Group. She is also a beekeeper with interests in apiculture and environmental science.
