Célio Fernando Baptista Haddad is Professor Titular de Vertebrados at the Instituto de Biociências, Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), Campus de Rio Claro, where he serves in the Departamento de Biodiversidade. He earned his undergraduate degree in Ciências Biológicas from Universidade Estadual de Campinas in 1982, followed by a master’s degree in 1987 and a doctorate in Ecologia in 1991, both from the same institution. He also obtained the Livre-Docente qualification from UNESP. Haddad maintains an active research program centered on the taxonomy, systematics, phylogeny, evolution, behavior, and conservation of anuran amphibians and serves as curator of the Célio F. B. Haddad amphibian collection (CFBH) at UNESP Rio Claro.
He is a CNPq Research Fellow at Level 1A and has held leadership roles including membership on the Coordenação de Biologia at FAPESP (2004–2009 and 2018–present), coordination of the Biota/FAPESP Program (2009–2012), and chair of the Comitê de Assessoramento de Zoologia (CA-ZO) at CNPq (2010–2013). Additional appointments include Research Associate at the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, University of California, Berkeley (1997) and Visiting Professor at Cornell University (2013). Haddad is a member of the Academia Brasileira de Ciências (elected 2019) and the Academia de Ciências do Estado de São Paulo (elected 2015). He received the Prêmio Jabuti in Ciências Naturais in 1993 for his contribution to História Natural da Serra do Japi and again in 2014 as author of Guia dos Anfíbios da Mata Atlântica: Diversidade e Biologia. His work has contributed to the description of numerous amphibian species and to broader understanding of reproductive modes in anurans.
