Rate My Professor Chaobin He

Professor Chaobin He is a Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS), where he also serves as Deputy Head for Graduate Studies. He holds a joint appointment as Principal Scientist at the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), A*STAR. He earned his B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees from South China University of Technology in 1984 and 1987, respectively, and his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in 1994. Prior to joining NUS in 2010 as an Associate Professor, he held research scientist positions at IMRE, A*STAR, advancing from Research Scientist to Principal Scientist, and completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Cambridge and the University of Southern Mississippi.

His research focuses on polymer nanocomposites and composites, organic-inorganic hybrids, green plastics, and functional polymers. He has been recognized as one of the world’s top 2% scientists from 2020 to 2023 according to metrics compiled by Stanford University and was elected President of the Materials Research Society (MRS) Singapore. Recent representative publications include works on ultratough hydrogels in Advanced Materials (2023), thermoplastic elastomers in Advanced Materials (2023), and fiber-reinforced composites in Advanced Science (2023). He was promoted to Full Professor at NUS in 2025.
