About Chen

Chen Gilor is Professor of Small Animal Internal Medicine in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1998 from the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel. He completed an internship in 2005 at the Animal Medical Center in New York City, followed by a residency in small animal internal medicine and board certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2008, both at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2010 from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to his appointment at the University of Florida, Gilor held faculty positions at the University of California, Davis and The Ohio State University.

Gilor’s research focuses on diabetes mellitus, obesity, gastrointestinal endocrinology, and adrenal diseases in small animals. He has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for diabetic cats and dogs and their owners for over 15 years and has published extensively on novel insulin therapies, insulin alternatives, and the pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus. His career goal includes developing diagnostic tests for prediabetes and treatments that delay or prevent the need for insulin therapy. He teaches courses including veterinary endocrinology and small animal internal medicine clerkships. Gilor has received awards including the ACVIM Resident Research Award in Small Animal Internal Medicine, Endocrinology as a mentor in 2017, the Zoetis Animal Health Award for Research Excellence in 2015, and the Ann Johnson and Wally Hoffman Resident Teaching Excellence Award in 2008.
