About Chetan

Professor Chetan Singh Thakur is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science. He received his Ph.D. in neuromorphic engineering from the MARCS Research Institute at Western Sydney University in 2016 under the guidance of Professor André van Schaik. He completed his M.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 2007. Prior to joining IISc as an Assistant Professor in 2017, he worked for six years as a Senior Integrated Circuit Design Engineer at Texas Instruments in Singapore, designing IPs for mobile processors, and served as a research fellow at Johns Hopkins University with Professors Ralph Etienne-Cummings and Ernst Niebur.

Professor Thakur is also an Adjunct Faculty member at the International Centre for Neuromorphic Systems at Western Sydney University. His research expertise includes neuromorphic computing, mixed-signal VLSI systems, computational neuroscience, probabilistic signal processing, and machine learning, with a primary interest in understanding the brain’s signal processing to develop novel intelligent systems. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a recipient of the Young Investigator Award from the Pratiksha Trust, the Early Career Research Award from the Science and Engineering Research Board of India, the Inspire Faculty Award from the Department of Science and Technology of India, and the Abdul Kalam Innovation Award from the Indian National Academy of Engineering. He serves as an Editorial Board Member of Neuromorphic Computing and Engineering (IOP Publishing) and as Specialty Chief-Editor (Assistant) of Frontiers in Neuroscience (Neuromorphic Engineering). He is associated with several research clusters at IISc, including the Brain, Computation, and Data Research Group, the Initiative on Quantum Technologies, AI@IISc, and Microelectronics & VLSI Design.
