Dr Chris Pook is a Senior Research Fellow and Lead Technologist at the Liggins Institute, University of Auckland. His work centres on the use of advanced analytical tools to study the chemical, physical and biological properties of plant and animal samples, with a focus on how organisms communicate through chemistry. He holds a PhD from Exeter University and has conducted research involving mass spectrometry, nutrition, biochemistry and the analysis of traditional medicinal plants such as kawakawa.
Dr Pook collaborates with researchers across the University of Auckland’s School of Biological Sciences and Human Nutrition Unit, as well as external partners including iwi groups. His projects have included investigations into metabolic disease, fortified breastmilk stability for neonatal care and the pharmacology of native New Zealand plants. He contributes to laboratory method development and supports student supervision in analytical research.
