About Chris

Dr Chris Puli'uvea is a Pacific immunologist serving as Senior Lecturer at Auckland University of Technology. He completed his PhD at the University of Auckland with a thesis titled The Immuno-metabolic Effects of Unique Māori and Pacific Gene Variants. His academic background includes prior roles as a Teaching Assistant in Molecular Medicine and Pathology at the University of Auckland. Puli'uvea's research focuses on immunology, genetics, and Māori and Pacific health, particularly genetic variants unique to Māori and Pacific peoples that affect the immune system.

He received the Cranwell Medal in 2023 for excellence in science communication, including community engagement and vaccine advocacy during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2024, Puli'uvea was awarded a Mana Tūāpapa research grant from the Royal Society of New Zealand to investigate genetic variants affecting the immune system in Māori and Pacific populations. His work contributes to advancing understanding of health outcomes in these communities through immunogenetics research.
