About Christine

Professor Christine Woods is the inaugural Theresa Gattung Chair for Women in Entrepreneurship in the Faculty of Business & Economics at the University of Auckland. She completed her PhD at the University of Auckland, with research exploring the entrepreneurial process among women who started their own businesses in Aotearoa, drawing on feminist economics and Austrian entrepreneurship theory. Her early professional experience included working with women entrepreneurs in Malawi in the early 1990s and starting a small business with her sister in Aotearoa before returning to academia.

Since 2001, Professor Woods has taught entrepreneurship across undergraduate, postgraduate, and MBA programmes at the University of Auckland. She has facilitated the Owner Manager Programme at the ICEHOUSE and the Vision to Business programme at the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Her research specializations include entrepreneurship education, social entrepreneurship, Māori entrepreneurship, and family business. She supervises doctoral students and was appointed to her current chair role in 2021, with plans to establish the Aotearoa Centre for Enterprising Women to support PhD and postdoctoral research on women in entrepreneurship.
