Christopher D. Denny is a Professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at St. John's University, where he has taught since 2004. He holds a Ph.D. in Theology and Religious Studies from The Catholic University of America (2004), an M.A. from the same institution (1998), and a B.A. from St. John's College (1993). His research examines the connection between Christian theology and vernacular literatures from the late medieval period to the modern era, as well as comparative theology with a focus on cross-cultural understandings of sacrifice and hermeneutics.
Denny has authored or edited several books, including A Generous Symphony: Hans Urs von Balthasar’s Literary Revelations (Fortress, 2016), A Realist’s Church: Essays in Honor of Joseph Komonchak (Orbis, 2015), Empowering the People of God: Catholic Action before and after Vatican II (Fordham University Press, 2014), and Finding Salvation in Christ: Essays on Christ and Soteriology in Honor of William Loewe (Pickwick, 2011). He has published numerous articles and essays in journals such as Horizons, Christianity and Literature, the Journal of Hindu-Christian Studies, Open Theology, and the Journal of Interreligious Studies. Denny has received awards including the Lionel Basney Award from the Conference on Christianity and Literature and recognition from the Catholic Press Association. He has served as president of the Faculty Association at St. John's University since 2020 and holds editorial roles, including with Horizons: The Journal of the College Theology Society.
