About Chunyi

Chunyi Zhi is a Chair Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at City University of Hong Kong. He earned his Ph.D. in physics from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, with a focus on the properties of nanostructures. Following his doctorate, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institute for Materials Science in Japan, where he advanced through roles as ICYS researcher, researcher, and senior researcher.

Professor Zhi’s research centers on aqueous electrolyte batteries, zinc ion batteries, solid-state batteries, flexible energy storage, and catalysts for sustainable development. He has authored more than 450 papers and holds over 100 patents. His contributions have been recognized with the City University of Hong Kong Outstanding Research Award and President Award, the NML Researcher Award, the Beijing Science and Technology Award (first class), and designation as an RGC Senior Research Fellow in 2023. He is also a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher in Materials Science (2019–2022), a member of the Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Professor Zhi serves as founding Editor-in-Chief of Nano Research Energy and Editor-in-Chief of functional materials for Materials Research Letters.
