Claiton Henrique Dotto Bau is Professor of Genetics at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. He has held this position in the Department of Genetics at the Instituto de Biociências since 1994. His research centers on psychiatric genetics, with a particular emphasis on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and alcohol dependence. Bau has contributed to numerous studies examining genetic factors in these conditions, including genome-wide association studies and analyses of specific gene variants.
He is an author on highly cited publications such as the 2019 Nature Genetics paper on genome-wide significant risk loci for ADHD and the 2012 Molecular Psychiatry review on the genetics of ADHD in adults. Additional work includes investigations into shared heritability of brain disorders, predictors of ADHD persistence, and genetic associations with impulsive behaviors and substance dependence.
